I have to write something about the game I'm helping make in computer game class. I can't remember exactly what I'm supposed to write about, but I'll talk about the game.
I just lost The Game. (for those of you who don't play The Game, I'm not talking about the board game)
Yeah, this board game is kinda like Candy Land, only more interesting. your goal is to reach the magical sword and go to the witch's castle, but along the way you can be changed into different animals. That may or may not be good; animals have certain advantages over humans, but only a human can carry the sword/enter the castle. yeah, that's the basic summary.
I think I'm supposed to blog about what I learned or something like that. Oh, I remember! what I learned about making a board game! Ok. I learned that it takes much time and many changes. You have to play the game you're creating a few times to fix every mistake, and even then you won't fix them all. It's like writing a book; your first draft WILL be bad, but you go back and fix it a lot and in the end, it will probably come out good. Another way board games are like books is you will never have a completely origninal game. Your mind will always be taking from other games.

nice thoughts, michelle. i like your group's game a lot. it can definitely be hard coming up with a truly original board game -- but that's often okay, since tried and true game mechanics work well. i like your book analogy -- design is definitely an iterative process - practice makes perfect! i hope you're enjoying the class so far.
